ChatGPT and its fellow AI systems have gone from novelty to everyday presence with astonishing speed. We ask them to write our emails, plan our holidays, solve problems, and increasingly, we are turning to them for something much more personal – People are forming friendships, seeking intimacy, and even using chatbots as therapists.

We are, in effect, learning to live alongside machines that can talk back. But what exactly are we talking to? And what happens when we start adapting ourselves to the way these systems think, respond and reason?

Join award-winning technology writer, Jamie Bartlett, as he discusses his latest book and Sunday Times bestseller, How to Talk to AI (and How Not To), a lively and provocative exploration of our rapidly changing relationship with artificial intelligence.

Jamie takes us inside the strange world of large language models (LLMs): how they produce their apparently intelligent responses, what they are genuinely good at, where they can go badly wrong, and how to make the most of them without becoming too trusting of machines that sound as though they understand us.

As AI becomes our collaborator, adviser, confidant and sometimes friend, what happens to the way we think, communicate and relate to each other? And, perhaps most importantly, how do we make sure we're still in charge of the conversation?
